Within 10 minutes walk of the hotel you can discover the old Bankside Power Station which has been transformed into The Tate Gallery of Modern Art, the 'Tate Modern', one of the world's greatest museums of modern art.
Shakespeare's Globe has a fascinating exhibition, open all year round, with guided tours of the theatre when not in performance. Theatre season is May-October.
A short detour down New Globe Walk and Park Street brings you to the Rose Theatre, the first playhouse on Bankside.
Back to the Thames Path, discover Vinopolis, which opened in July 2000 - the first ever adult attraction dedicated to the world of wine. It also houses the Southwark Information Centre - a great place to discover more about the area.
Walk down Clink Street visit the Clink Prison and experience what life was like aboard a Tudor galleon on the Golden Hinde, a full scale replica of the ship sailed by Sir Francis Drake.
Stop for a few moments at Southwark Cathedral, a place of worship for a thousand years with its Elizabethan theatrical connections.
From here, and almost within touching distance of the hotel are the London Dungeon, which features a Medieval Siege, Jack the Ripper and the Judgement Day Ride Experience (not for those of a nervous disposition!), and Churchill's Britain at War Exhibition.
Take a detour to St Thomas' Street and visit the Old Operating Theatre Museum, the oldest surviving operating theatre in the country.
Then wander round historic Borough Market - 'London's Larder', as featured in the Sean Connery film 'Entrapment'and Bridget Jones. Here you can take a drink in one of the local market pubs from 6am in the morning, or visit the specialist food shops and restaurants now turning this atmospheric area into a centre of food excellence.
Walk for five or ten minutes along Park Street and Redcross Street to Southwark Playhouse in Southwark Bridge Road. This is a hothouse of new writing, directing and acting situated in a Victorian warehouse. Walk back to Union Street and have a look at the delightful Copperfield Street.
