London Spotlight on Gail Seres-Woolfson in London Bridge OPEN 2 Posted on 23/10/2019 by lbhblog The ninth artist featured in our current exhibition – London Bridge OPEN 2 Boundaries – is Gail Seres-Woolfson who has two pieces within the exhibit. London Bridge Hotel is a former telephone exchange built in 1916 which is now surrounded by the equally stunning and evolving architecture of London Bridge. To reflect this contrast of historical and modern existing side-by-side, London Bridge Hotel’s General Manager, Julio Marques, has curated an exhibition which includes 20 different approaches to architecture using a myriad of methods including wood carving, oil paint on concrete, illustration, London’s pubs re-imagined, screen printing and painting on silk. The theme of the exhibit coincided with The London Festival of Architecture this summer. About the exhibited works: Dancing City (above left) – Mixed media on board, 90cm x 61cm – £1,600 Urban Blueprint (above right) – 75cm x 61cm – £1,500 ‘Dancing City’ explore movement, space and architecture and the feeling of navigating through the landscape. Dancing smog engulfing geometric construction; surges of colour against urban grey; chimneys, windows and signposts within a complex landscape of abstract shapes and colliding planes. ‘Urban Blueprint’ explores movement, space and architecture in the city. Created during a residency with Art Number 23 next to London Bridge Station, Seres-Woolfson finds pleasure in the juxtapositions and constant evolution of the landscape around her. Collaged photography, abstracted shapes and dynamic lines meet loose and fluid gestural marks. A palette of brick brown and steel grey contrasts the bold yellow and deep blue lifted from plastic hoardings. Forms and mixed materials are layered one upon another to create a reimagined space in which buildings are both anchored and suspended. The ‘blueprint’ of the title references the technical architectural plan vital for accurate construction and yet Seres-Woolfson playfully offers the viewer a collection of blocks, lines and ephemera which seem to invite rearrangement and multiple configurations and eschew a single, static point of resolution.www.instagram.com/gailsereswoolfson London Bridge OPEN 2 – Over 100 artists submitted work for consideration for London Bridge OPEN 2 with twenty chosen for this second exhibit. OPEN 2 artworks are displayed throughout the public areas of the hotel and its adjoining Quarter Bar & Lounge, allowing potential buyers the opportunity to see an artwork in an environment more akin to a contemporary home. All OPEN art works can be purchased and the exhibition runs until December 2019.
